Challenge: Cardiac catheterization is a relatively common medical procedure during which a catheter is threaded through a large blood vessel into the chambers of the heart. For the team performing the procedure, it is extremely important to ensure that the catheter is correctly positioned inside the patient’s body. The manufacturer of the catheter therefore required a solution that would render the catheter visible on ultrasound.

Solution: Granula developed a special combination of a number of functional ingredients, in close collaboration with scientists working in the industry and with the manufacturer of the catheters. Ultimately, as the required dosage of ingredients in the plastic matrix was too high for a masterbatch formulation, a compound was developed that successfully met all specifications.
